Sybeus
From Spiritwood Wiki
Sybeus exists as two beings. One lives in the online worlds, a moongate traveler true to the story of the Ultima series, visiting different realities while retaining the memory and histories of each. The other is the online alias of a physical person who rearranged the letters of his surname. Both played by the same person, yet may be more different than some realize.

Sybeus of Ultima
| Height | : Over 6' |
| Weight | : Heavy |
| Hair | : Sun Bleached Brown |
| Eyes | : Leaf Green |
Sybeus is an example of a being with the eight virtues set forth by Lord British, King of Britiannia, and a fellow traveler of the moongates. If you speak to Sybeus his Honesty may be the first virtue you hear, for he will neither lie to save face nor to avoid consequences. Or perhaps you'll see his Valor, a great double-bladed Orcish war axe unsheathed without hesitation or effort, ready to defend a mere ideal or even another life with his own. But more likely you'll first experience him as others often do, a silent hulking figure of the forest, scarred by the laws of the wild, yet still able to show his Compassion for any living being in need of his expert healing abilities. He carries Honor in his honest words and valorous actions, rather than on the crest of a shield. He would accept Justice not only for others, but for himself as well. And he would Sacrifice all he had to see another safe in the face of danger. Together these virtues provide a level of Spirituality often unseen in others. Yet the Humility in all that he does is unmistakable.
Though the virtues shine from within, Sybeus follows a much simpler set of principles. Inscribed upon his great axe are the words Ver Amo Kor. Words which some may recognize as the names given to the three massive grizzly bears that are often never far from where ever he may be. Yet others may see a higher significance, for they are the mantras of the three principles of Truth, Love, and Courage. Which combined become the axiom of Infinity.
Goodbye Ultima Online
Well, I figured I should post something about me leaving UO.
Couldn't really think of anything better than showing people how far Sybeus made it...
He did get to tame a dragon(his lifelong goal); even if it did roast him alive a few seconds afterwards, and the fact that it already had a name(Fluffy). His spellbook was full; though it was only completely filled a week before his departure, and he never did have a touch of magic in his blood. The journal he'd planned on writing in every day still sits in the bank, with only days 1 through 6 filled in; day 4 only had the words "Slept most of the day.. the Lahg beast was wrapped firmly about my feet." He never did make it into a dungeon.. not once did his feet set foot in those dark caves. He had a boat once; the smallest one can buy, and he only traveled to moonglow and back twice, then the boat disappeared mysteriously. He did make it to every city at least once in his life; but I doubt there are many that haven't. Sybeus visited the Shrine of Spirituality many a times; it was the first time he found a true riddle in all of Britannia, and it was also the last. His interest in wisps gained him a great deal of knowledge in both the wisp's lore and the Gargish language; even though the wisps continue to babble nonsense and the gargoyles still attack on sight. The one truely noble thing he did was.. follow the way of Infinity.
Ironic, since his life ended in a world where it was so hard to stay dead.
Dispite all his crushed dreams and broken realities, he did something completely unthinkable to those that created the virtual castatrophe.. he made friends of people he had never seen before, people who lived in other countries, people who's faces he still has yet to see.. he found a home amoungst the rubble of what was promised to be a thriving world. He had survived the first, great attempt to an online rpg. Even if it failed, it was, and still is, the forefather and template on which to build future online worlds.. and he was a part of it.
Sybeus never really made it anywhere in UO.. but I had fun :)
Ultima Online Revisited
Sybeus disappeared just before the lost lands were discovered, ushering in the second age. His disappearance wasn't an unusual occurance, but the duration of this one was. It was not until the eighth age and the re-emergence of the elves that he was seen again by the Rangers of the Heart. When asked where he had been, he simply replied, "In the wilds with Kor, far from civilization." Though he looked observibly weaker than when he left, the decades that passed appeared to have only aged him a few years. He looked as if he had been living a life of comfort rather than in some harsh, northern wilds. But when pressed for more information, people often found themselves bereft of anything substantial.
As he toiled away on building a stone house within the Spiritwood, his strength renewed. And with the help of Dev Hammerforge's skill in carpentry and Elisandra's decorating touch, he furnished the woodsy home with an elven touch. This was but one of the differences from the Sybeus people once knew. To actually sleep inside, much less a bed, was something unheard of for the Sybeus of the past. Other changes were much more subtle.
Then again Sybeus began to disappear without notice. Each time a little longer than the last. The Ophidians marched straight past his home into Skara Brae, and yet he was no where to be seen. Then his stone house began to empty of his belongings until only a few chests remained. And so it remains now.
Sybeus the Alias
The name Sybeus originally comes from rearranging letters in the surname of it's creator. It was just an alias to buffer the physical person from his online identity. Something that obscured his age and physical looks. Something that could be dropped and redone if the boy behind the name failed to build his identity the way he wanted. Obviously he succeeded in some sense, or the name would have disappeared into oblivion along with countless others from people with the same intent. The boy then became a young man, a little less concerned with age, and grew out of many of his childhood imperfections. The name now simply continues to exist because it uniquely marks the creator on the Internet to this day, from his immediate family to those who have neither seen his face nor heard his voice.
Since the alias Sybeus is simply an obfuscation of a physical person, it's only natural that, depending on who you are, you've probably only seen specific aspects of his persona. The role-player, the fanatical gamer, the programmer, the hacker, the silly name your real life friend uses, etc. So there's really no point to describe who Sybeus is any further. He's a person. And like any person, he can't be quantified in words alone.
