Short Description

A loose-knit organization of people that inherently respect ranger principles.

Structure

The first thing you must realize is that the Rangers of the Heart (RoH) have no leader. Guild decisions are made by an informal voting process with an extreme sensitivity to negative feedback. One negative vote can mean the entire topic is dismissed. Or it could mean the topic is discussed until everyone agrees or at least concedes. To pass a vote, a majority of active members must vote affirmatively. However, abstention of votes is also common place since many trust the opinions and decision making ability of fellow brothers and sisters. This means that a majority vote could be anywhere from a handful of affirmative votes to the entire guild being involved.

Joining the rangers and becoming a brother or sister is long process with loosely defined criteria. There is no definite timeframe to completion. Generally, the criteria is that a person must spend time with a wide variety of members so that both members and the aspiring ranger get to know each other. At some point, when enough people start to wonder why a person isn't part of the RoH, then a vote is taken. It is rare that a vote be taken before this point is reached, so membership votes generally become a finalizing step in an otherwise informal process.

Both the structureless society and loose definitions can be difficult or frustrating to some. However, these methods have been proven to work over the years. They are the foundation for the guild, whether others agree with them or not.

Now all this may sound dry, wishy-washy, or perhaps very out of character. There's a reason for this. Membership is not based on game characters alone. The RoH exists as part of an online community of real people. And as such, the community is what you are really joining, with real friends and even some real life issues. What's described here is simply an interpretation of how the real people of the guild interact. Much of the lore and and in-character descriptions are developed through stories and in-game interaction. The structure transcends the game.
