After a two-year break from gaming, and a short trip into space to visit the International Space Station, Ultima creator and former NCsoft executive Richard Garriott is back, this time as the technical director of a social media company.
Austin-based Portalarium will focus on "developing and publishing online social games, virtual worlds and related services and products," according to its website.
The company's first product is The Portalarium Player, a web brpwser plug-in that is supposed to help games run seamlessly inside a variety of major social networks.
The first game to make use of this new player is Texas hold 'em card game Sweet @$! Poker, which is in beta testing on Facebook. The plug-in is in development to run within MySpace and other social networks as well as the Mac, iPhone and Android.

Fallout: New Vegas Set For Fall Release |
|
Feb 04, 2010 - 2:40 PM - by Raina

The next big Fallout game, Fallout: New Vegas will be out for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this fall, publisher Bethesda Softworks announced today. A new trailer accompanied the news, which raises questions about Bethesda's other projects.
Fallout New Vegas was announced by Bethesda last year. The game is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, a studio comprised of many developers who worked on earlier Fallout games.
There's little we know yet about the plot of the new game. The trailer only sets the mood, depicting Las Vegas at night and ending with the line familiar to Fallout players: "War never changes." The Fallout universe is set in the future, in a... [Read More]

Someone once mentioned something about the best laid plans of mice and men. I think you can also add Ultima Online into the mix now.
Today we have officially opened the gates for all players in good standing to return to Britannia. All accounts have been opened and former players can login using their original user name and password. (Forgot them? Contact EA Customer service at http://support.ea.com) Accounts will remain open through October 16th to allow former players the opportunity to get reacquainted with the game and community. Spread the word to friends and family - there has never been a better time to return to Britannia!
In all honesty, we were lining up several other announcements to coincide with the Return to Britannia campaign, as well as with the true launch date of Ultima Online’s … but the server... [Read More]

The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall Goes Free |
|
Jul 09, 2009 - 10:24 PM - by Raina

Bethesda Softworks is doing its fans a solid today by giving away one of its older games, the second in the Elder Scrolls series, via its web site. Enjoy The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall for the low price of absolutely free. The only thing it'll cost you is 148 megabytes of hard drive space, a small price to pay for the game Johnny Wilson of Computer Gaming World once called "Revolutionary!" You'll also need a DOS emulator, something Bethesda kindly offers a link to, and a pair of rose-tinted glasses to play.
Interesting to that the second game in the massive series requires so little hardware horsepower—you'll need a 66 Mhz processor or better—and consumes so little space. I remember Daggerfall being massive, but its install size pales in comparison to the 1 gigabyte... [Read More]

Early August brings massive changes to Dungeons & Dragons Online, with a new class, new dungeons, and a new free-to-play, micro-transaction-based financial model that should bring curious new players to the game in droves. But when exactly in early August? Let's ask DDO Unlimited executive producer Fernando Paiz.
