Everyone can stealth but it's a little broken at the moment (as at beta). Theoretically the more points you put into stealth the less easily you are detected. You can also put points into stealth detect. As it stood at beta, stealth detection didnt work and there was no difference between few points in stealth and a lot of points. These points come from a different allocation pool from feats, they are more like character traits which control mana regen, etc.
The rogue archetypes (barbarian, ranger, assassin) have the advantage of not using up stamina when they move in stealth. Anyone can stealth indefinitely if they don't move.
The soldier archetypes (guardian, conqueror, dark templar) generally have lower dps but higher survivability. Guardians can wear the heaviest armor (plate), and can wield halbards and are less susceptible to being knocked back, but have the lowest dps. Dark Templars supplement their hp/dps with lifetaps and spells. Conquerors have group buffs like mana regen and stamina regen and the highest dps among soldiers.
As far as rangers are concerned, they were extremely overpowered in beta at first, and were drastically nerfed both in range and dps. Rumor is that rangers are the worst class now at level 80. However I'm sure there will be more balancing to come. The problem though is that it's hard to balance a class that has both range AND stealth. (I know I just said all classes can stealth, but rogues have much more usable stealth). Assassins in AoC have the highest DPS and the best stealth, but they dont have a lot of stuns and crowd control and they die easily. That seems to be a correct balance, no stunlock assassins like in WoW. Barbarians have good melee damage but not much range, and can only wear light armor with not a lot of hp.
