Default Problems thread

Ok, I have been running WoW fine on my mid-level machine, absolutely no performance problems or glitches, but many people (usually with higher specs) have been running into problems. I thought we should share our specs and driver versions to see if they help.

I'm running
AMD X2 64 3600+
Geforce 7600GT (manufacturer: gigabyte)
2gb ram
Winxp sp2
1600x1200 resolution (started the game in 1024x768, seemed fine too)
official nvidia Geforce 7 series drivers 93.71
directx 9c with all patches up to dec 2006 (in dxdiag it says 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904))

I am not getting weird colors or extremely small text. For weird colors, see if you aren't running 32bit color on the desktop. For small text, see if you aren't running "normal" font size in the Display Properties->appearance tab. At high resolutions, on my screen it seems to scale everything, so actually all the widgets and text are really big, in proportions to how it would be on a 1024x768 screen. That's actually not ideal, cause it defeats the purpose of higher resolution, but right now I'm settling for being able to play the game :P

Some people have been reporting crashes or extremely slow performance with 8800 series cards. Mathilde solved her problem by completely uninstalling the drivers and installing the previous version and reinstalling directx. However I don't know the details of which driver version works. All I know is, such cards should definitely not run slowly :P

Make sure you get the latest directx, the version 9c doesnt mean anything because there have been many patches since. If your directx installation files dont have tons of extra cab files with Dec2006 (or later) in the name, then you may not have the latest.

Post your problems and specs and we'll do a comparison. Maybe there's a common problem.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ on ASUS CrossHair MBoard
2gb RAM
NVidia GeForce 8800 GTS (ASUS) w/ 640mb Video RAM
Running NVidia 8800 Drivers (97.92) version 6.14.0011.5822
DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Windows XP sp2
Sound: SB Audigy 2 Driver v5.12.0001.1164 (December 8th, 2005)

Game resolution is 1280x1024.

Everything is smooth and fine, no problems to report with the client or display (other than my mouse cursor disappearing at one point - a restart fixed it). Once in a while folks seem to stutter, but I think it's them (one guy was jumping around on my screen a lot, said his machine was jittering).

Well! as long as we're having a pissing contest....

I didn't tell you I'm also running an IBM BlueGene/L on the side!
And I've ordered a quantum computer that performs calculations literally in its sleep! http://www.newscientisttech.com/arti...25405.700.html

So there!

There is a patch at AMD for the DC processors and certain GeForce cards. After formatting, DAoC would bog down and crash on me. I applied the patch and was able to quit smoking after 3 weeks... errr no... wait... it fixed the crashing.

I don't know if that will help any kind of performance issues with WH or not but... may be worth a shot.

Last night, I zerged the train quest thing for a few solid hours and eventually i got gummed up, lost my mouse pointer, and then basically had to kill the game to get out.

Hrmmm

lol Ed

I do know I applied some kind of utility for XP from AMD regarding dual core processors late last year, not sure what it was/did though.

Oooh yeah! I did too! DAoC was unplayable without it. It would start off fine, then gradually lag horribly. If you have an AMD dual core processor and have problems, try installing this:

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/..._13118,00.html

(Dual core optimiser, first on the list)
