Here's a quote from the WoW General Forums from Tyren

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.aspx?fn=wow-general&t=937765&p=1&tmp=1#post937765

The following 20 realms will be coming down for scheduled maintenance at 6pm PST:
Lightbringer
Cenarius
Uther
Kilrogg
Proudmoore
Hyjal
Frostwolf
Ner'zhul
Kil'Jaeden
Blackrock
Tichondrius
Silver Hand
Doomhammer
Icecrown
Deathwing
Kel'Thuzad
Destromath
Gorgonnash
Dethecus
Spinebreaker

When the realms are ready to come back up, we’ll be doing a staggered restart, bringing up a few at a time while monitoring performance closely. The total downtime for these realms should last approximately 2 hours.

The reason for the maintenance is that we have identified that one of the problems causing multiple disconnects revolves around the boat system in the game. Specifically, the boat that travels between Menethil Harbor and Auberdine was causing errors that impacted stability for the entire realm.

When the realms come back online, this boat will be replaced by NPCs who can teleport players between these two locations. Once this fix is implemented, we will analyze performance under live conditions and from that point roll out the fix across all realms. We continue to investigate other unrelated performance issues, but we believe this measure will help improve stability for our players until we can fully resolve the boat issue and place it back in the game. Thank you for your patience during this time, and we look forward to seeing you back in-game!

Strange that only a few servers are taken down to fix this. If it was a program bug you'd think all servers would be affected...

Blizzard is just now realizing this error? The boats have been disappearing for I want to say at least two weeks, but time is relative with me. Kvasir and I have both died at least once. In fact, it's become a joke in the General Chat in Methinil Harbor hehe...Somehow I don't think that's the only problem they're having, but at least it is a start...

Wive's Tale Remedy: If you stand at the back of the boat or go inside it won't disappear on you. Or so people like to say, have no idea if it works or not but at least if you're at the back of the boat, less distance to swim :).

Amazingly the boat hasn't disappeared for either of us in a while but one never knows.

We'll just have to see how well this fix goes :)
